How is Men’s and Women’s Language?

God created many different language styles among men and women. They have their own way to communicate each other. Men’s language has special characteristic and so does women’s. Taking for example that there is a lot of women experienced broken heart because of men’s language. Therefore, Men’s language is totally different from women’s which men’s language is to the point and less polite than women’s, while women’s is little bit longer than men’s.
To begin with, Men’s language is stated directly in a simple sentece. It means that generally, men doesn’t tend to speak a lot. They tend to declare their point in speaking directly. It is in line with Chao’s opinion (2012: 175) stating that men tend to speak directly and literally. If their sentence contains the point they intend, they do not add with another expression such as question tag which is usually used by women generally. Lakoff (1974) stated that women often use question tag while speaking. She also stated that women use it to elicit conversation.
Secondly, men’s language is less polite than women’s language. Holmes (2001: 288) states than women’s language is more polite than men’s commonly. Taking for example is the use of word ‘please’ in some request and imperative sentences. Men often order and ask someone to do something directly without using that word. Besides, men often produce some strong swearwords in their speech. Meanwhile, people commonly will claim women saying swearwords in their speech as very impolite naughty women.
To compare with, women’s language is not as simple as men’s language. It is little bit longer. Women seldom use some additional words to their statements while speaking. They do not produce their statements directly. The do not tell something to the point. However, they usually add their statements with fillers, tag question, intensifier words such as ‘just’ and ‘so’, and emphatic stress (Lakoff in Holmes, 2001: 286). By the existence of those words, women’s language becomes little bit longer.
Taking those points of view into a conclusion, that men’s and women’s language is totally different. There are still some arguments stating each of the differences. Therefore, people should know and understand the different characters of men’s and women’s language.
